Our Heart and Soul is in our Teachers
Kelsey Teske
Working as a massage therapist for over a decade I always felt like I was missing being able to offer something more to my clients. I had been practicing Yoga diligently for a little over 4 years when I decided that it was time to take the plunge myself and learn to teach it.
After completing my first 200 hr teacher training I actually just found myself....frustrated! The teaching style didn't add up to what I had known from so many years of working with the human body through massage and I didn't feel equipped to teach people safely. Through some shear luck I was scooped up by my mentor Sara who taught me everything that I didn't know I didn't know. After another year of working with her, one on one, she molded me into the teacher that I am today.
Over the years, I have since completed both my Level 1 and Level 2 Yin training (which initially was where I thought I would spend all my hours teaching - this is where my love in anatomy and structural variation lies). As well, I completed my Restorative Training.
A few more years under my belt working on bodies in the massage room and seeing how they move in the studio gives an interesting understanding on how different everyone's body is and that no two are created the same. No posture is the same for everyone and we are not meant to just keep trying and trying and trying to cram our bodies into a shape that we see on social media just because society says it looks good. Structural deviation created us all different and makes us all move different. But Yoga is accessible for EVERYONE! Sometimes it just requires a little modification. I'd like to think that I can be here to help you find out how to make that capable in your body so that this practice can be for you too.
